Ex Carphone Warehouse and mobile service provider TalkTalk has signed a deal with Vodafone to run mobile services under its own brand name.
TalkTalk will offer contract mobile voice and data tariffs later in the summer in addition to its existing broadband offerings.
TalkTalk also indicated that it has added 34,000 net new broadband customers in the last company quarter, taking its total base to over 4.230 million.
Companies Broadband revenue also grew to £301m from £200m last year after TalkTalk acquired Tiscali and its entire broadband userbase. plus companies improvement within broadband ARPU services.
TalkTalk expects to deliver full-year results in line with its guidance, including delivering 6-8% revenue growth, and 20% growth in normalised earnings per share and dividends per share.
BT has reported a 17% rise in pre-tax profits for its first quarter as chief executive Ian Livingston commented that "The financial results underpin our outlook for the full year, despite the challenging environment."
The landline telecom major and ex-British Telecom has reported that net debt was down by more than £1.6bn to £8.9bn as company reduced operation costs by more than £290m.
Profits were up to £446m in the quarter till end 30 June compared with £382m last time. Revenue dropped to £5.01bn from £5.24bn previously, in line with forecasts.
BT, who need to fund pension deficits, has recently been stopped from raising wholesale prices by 4% by the telecoms regulator Ofcom who concluded that there was no 'compelling evidence' to change.
BT, who are to use Smart Water to catch copper cable thieves in what has become a real problem for telecom networks, also indicated that it is in consultation with the government over spending cuts.
Ofcom are also pursuing the advertising of broadband speeds in the UK and is concerned that the actual speeds internet browsers achieve are often less than the speed advertised in promotions.
