Definition: Blue Chip Stocks
Blue chip companies often making up the constituents of the leading stockmarket indexes - Companies that are regarded as less risky, well-established and believed to be financially sound whilst being well managed and delivering dividends in all economic climates are referred to as blue chip stocks.
Typically blue chip stocks may have a high price, lower volatility and probably a lower yield than more aggressive, riskier investments. Blue chip companies and stocks are usually regarded, in normal economic climates as safer investments.
