Definition: Cyclical Stocks
Cyclical stocks tend to relate in some way to the wider economy with the company performance itself seeming to follow a repeated pattern which can be matched to the wider economic performance.
Cyclical companies make products or provide services likely to be in lower demand during downturns and higher during upswings.
Sectors such as energy, automotive industry, steel and construction, tend to follow the economy and regarded as cyclical. Stockmarket cycles tend to be repeated and identifiable with a possibility to anticipate repeating trends in relation to wider external forces.
